It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have already been conquered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are the only things left for a squad that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batsmen to maintain a record if never given the possibility.

In the end, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a platform to create her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has witnessed all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have come from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not fail again.

Whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Some will argue the argument supporting final game tension. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this ton was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this innings was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a challenging time because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

A single came off the opening delivery and from that point the right-hander was underway.

"An opportunity to go out there and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

Once she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if we do, we know we can achieve it."

Those words will be the final thing rival teams at this championship want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this success succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they left last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

However although she later admitted those fitness problems have postponed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is expected to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as leader.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
